Information

In 2019, I had the opportunity to take part in a work experience placement at Tate Liverpool. This consisted of four visits interacting with the staff and visitors that they receive on a daily basis. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the art handlers for Tate, an exhibit curator assistant and other organisers involved in the socially engaged projects. The organisation, Project Art Works is the UK’s leading artist led group who work with young children and adults who have minor to major disabilities. Their programmes offer support, guidance and friendship to them and their families. Most often their work is displayed through exhibits, publications and digital platforms to raise awareness of what they can achieve and to promote diversity. Being able to meet some of the team, including the co-founder Kate Adams, artist filmmaker Tim Corrigan and the explorers project coordinator Martin Swan. This was an eye-opening experience listening to their stories. During my time with them, I was able to observe visitors drawing on the communal pieces of paper to be hung as the exhibit. I also got involved myself with the drawing, interacting with the Tate visitors and those part of the organisation. For the Illuminating the Wilderness celebration event, I spent the afternoon collecting surveys that I gave to the visitors of the exhibit, fully engaging with the staff members and the public.
